Practice

Roger practises in a broad range of civil and commercial matters, with an emphasis on company, land, trusts, probate, bankruptcy, building management, employees’ compensation and securities litigation.  Roger also has experience in international arbitration and related court proceedings.

 

Roger has appeared in the District Court, the Court of First Instance, the Court of Appeal and the Court of Final Appeal, and is regularly instructed as sole advocate or as a led junior in various interlocutory, substantive and appellate matters.

 

In addition to appearing in court, Roger has appeared in the Market Misconduct Tribunal, and also represented clients in licensing or disciplinary hearings before self-regulating organizations. 

 

Prior to joining Chambers, Roger was admitted as a Solicitor of the High Court following his training at an international law firm from 2011 to 2013. He joined Chambers in 2015 having completed pupillage with Mr Horace Wong SC, Mr Victor Dawes SC, Mr Giles Surman and Ms Eva Sit.

> DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Ltd v Sit Pan Jit CACV 91/2015, 10 June 2016: Defended an appeal against judgment entered for the bank. Considered the law on contractual estoppel and misrepresentation in the context of financial misselling cases (led by Horace Wong SC and Victor Dawes SC).
>  DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Ltd v Sit Pan Jit FAMV 45/2016, 17 February 2017: Resisted leave to appeal to the CFA (led by Horace Wong SC and Victor Dawes SC).  
>  Dana Shipping and Trading SA v Sino Channel Asia Ltd [2017] 1 HKC 329 (CACV 177/2016, 1 November 2016): Application for security for costs in an appeal against the setting aside of leave to enforce a foreign arbitral award in Hong Kong which has been set aside in the seat of arbitration.
>  Chong On Nei and Ors v Han Chun and Ors HCA 995/2012, 27 September 2016: Defended an appeal against the striking out of all the claims against the 2nd defendant on the basis that no reasonable cause of action was disclosed for breach of contract, breach of trust or unjust enrichment (led by Victor Dawes SC).
>  Hussain Kamran v Khan, Amar and Anor CACV 255/2014, 11 April 2017: Application to amend the costs order imposed in a personal injury action where the Employees Compensation Assistance Fund Board had intervened (led by Horace Wong SC).
>  Yu Chun Kit v Wong Wing Yau (the Bankrupt) and Anor DCEC 1787/2015, 5 June 2017: Assessment of employee’s compensation.
>  Kwai Tak Ming v K.S. Capital One Ltd and Others CACV 132/2016, 12 June 2017: Appeal against judgment for breach of a sale and purchase agreement (led by Horace Wong SC).
>  Cheng Chien Kuo v New Resources Holdings Limited HCMP 2985/2014, 20 June 2017: Application for registration of transfer of shares.
