Practice
Practice in all areas of work.
 
Chantel is developing a broad civil practice and accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ work.   She has been instructed in a wide range of cases such as PRC cross-border litigations, probate and trusts litigations, general civil and commercial, family/matrimonial proceedings, mental health applications, interlocutory applications, medical negligence and magistracy appeals. Chantel has provided expert opinions on Hong Kong law in respect of contract, agency, guarantee, company, trusts and restitution to various courts of the PRC. She has been appointed as a Legal Consultant of Jiangsu FD Yongheng Law Firm of PRC since 2016. 
 
Chantel has appeared as an advocate (either on her own right or as a led junior) in the Court of Appeal, the Court of First Instance, the District Court, the Family Court and the Magistrates’ Courts. Chantel regularly acts as prosecutor-on-fiat for the Department of Justice.
 
Chantel has degrees in 3 different jurisdictions.  She came top in her LLB in Guangzhou, China prior to obtaining her master degrees in Hong Kong and England respectively.  She served her internships in some solicitor firms in Guangzhou, China and marshalled in Guangdong Higher People’s Court and Guangzhou Intermediate People’s Court.  In addition, Chantel has various working experience in some distinguished chambers in the UK, including Essex Court Chambers, Keating Chambers, Monckton Chambers, Maitland Chambers and St John’s Chambers. She was a selected mooter at the ESU-Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition and Essex Court Chambers-Singapore Academy of Law International Mooting Competition.  Chantel also has working experience in respect of investment funds, securities, SFC compliance and licensing matters in Simmons & Simmons, Hong Kong.

Chantel is a native Mandarin and Cantonese speaker.

> Cheng Wan Lan v Kwok Chung Chee, CACV 128/2014, 15 April 2015 (led by Mr.Nelson Miu) - Acted for the plaintiff/appellant in a contested probate action to challenge the validity of the will under the estate.
> Re: CSL, HCMH 77/2014, - Acted for the applicant to be appointed as a Committee under the estate of a mentally incapacitated person under Mental Health Ordinance (Cap 136).
> Chen Cheryl Deanna v Chen Pak Yin Stella, CACV 24/2015, 1 September 2015 - Acted for the respondent to oppose an application of stay of proceedings.
> Sze Kam Wah v Sze hong Wah, HCMP 673/2015 - Acted for the executor in an administration action of the estate.
> HKSAR v Leung Wai Chung Ray, HCMA 275/2015, 30 September 2015 - Acted for the appellant to appeal the conviction of dangerous driving.
> Lai Lai Siu v Deng Yujiao & Lau Chi Lam, FCMP 221/2013, 2 December 2015 - Acted for the applicant to obtain an application for stay of proceedings (s 4 of the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Ordinance (Cap 481) pending the parallel civil proceedings.
> Cheung Tak Kuen, Tam Ching Hiu, by her next friend Cheung Yuet Ming Linda v Cheung Loy, HCMP 13/2016 - Acted for the beneficiaries in a probate and administration proceedings and an application to remove the executor under the estate. 
> Cheung So Lan, by her next friend Ng Lai Ha v Liu Woen Soe & Liu Buw Wu, the personal representative of the Estate of Lioe Ka Khie, also known as Lioe Ka Kie alias Lioe Tung Tong, deceased, FCMP 111/2015 - Acted for the applicant in an application under s 4 of the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Ordinance ( Cap 481) seeking for a lump sum/periodical payments.
> Wang Ping & Yan Wan Ching v Sze Mee Lai & Mastein Company Limited, HCA2126/2011 (led by Mr CY Li SC) - Acted for the plaintiffs in a PRC-Hong Kong cross-border dispute in respect of the loans, company shares and trusts properties.
